Yesterday I published an interactive distance vs. time graph of the journeys of Bilbo and Frodo in the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings. It quickly became apparent that most of Frodo’s journey to Mount Doom was taken care of in the Fellowship of the Ring. Here is a chart comparing how far and for how many days Frodo and Sam travelled in each book. The result translates to the films very well for the Fellowship of the Ring. The Two Towers movie ended before Frodo, Sam and Gollum had come to Shelobs lair so the travelled distance in the last two movies would be evened out.
