Life-length distribution
The distribution of life lengths within the races Men, Dwarves and Hobbits. Hover over the bars to see the number of characters.

The distribution is important not only to understand the impact on the mean age of each race but also to understand Middle-Earth. There are very few Dwarves with known age of death and many of them died in battle. This affects the mean age a lot. The longest living Dwarf was Dwalin who lived to become 340 years old.

Hobbits live a very quiet life compared to other races. Given that there is also a lot of information about them their distribution is fairly good.

Men show some interesting characteristics suggesting that there are three different mean ages. One for regular men close to 90 years, one for Númenoreans and their descendants at about 200 years and finally one for the royalty of Númenor at close to 400 years. Elros who lived to become 500 years is not included due to his Half-Elven descent.
