How the population of the known characters of Middle-Earth change through the ages. Zoom by dragging horizontally with the mouse.
While we will never know the true population of Middle-Earth we can map how the described characters in the books changes. This of course shows the world Tolkien's choose to describe and nothing more.
When looking at the graph it immediately becomes apparent how much Tolkien cared for describing Hobbits. Hobbits cared deeply for genealogy but had lost information of their origin and relationship to the rest of mankind. It is only known that they once journeyed from the Vales of Anduin in Wilderland.
